Brave Spirits Theatre updates a classical story of a male who sells his essence to a demon to try aspiration and energy from a woman’s point-of-view. In her query to get all she’s ever wanted, Joan Faustus pays a ultimate price: her soul. As she practice a biggest pleasures one can be afforded, she contingency also confront a darkest areas of amiability and a consistent hazard of ruin itself. A womanlike Faustus (and mostly womanlike cast) exploits informed congenital tropes in sequence to yield a fresh, complicated lens to this centuries-old story.
BST Artistic Director Charlene V. Smith stars as Dr. Joan Faustus. The expel also includes BST Artistic Associates Ian Blackwell Rogers and Rachel Hynes, as good as Katie Culligan, Hollis Evey, Lisa Hill-Corley, Hilary Kelly, Jack Novak, and Valerie Adams Rigsbee. Paul Reisman is a first member and Producing Artistic Director of Faction of Fools Theatre Company, DC’s award-winning Commedia dell’Arte Theatre Company. For Faction of Fools, Reisman has destined The Merchant of Venice, Pinocchio!, and Tales of Marriage and Mozzarella. He also destined Brother Mario for Flying V and The Duchess of Malfi for We Happy Few. Reisman has an MFA from a Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy for Classical Acting.
